Proposed Sail Plan

This is a proposed sailplan for my Cape Dory 28. I have decided to change the club footed sloop rig to a double headsail sloop. The stock wooden plank bowsprit will be replaced with a tubular stainless steel and wood platform. I will increase the "J" measurement by about one foot making it equal the "E" measurement of the mainsail, 12' 6". The total working sail area for the boat will therefore be increased from the stock 400 square feet to about 475 square feet. The staysail and working genoa will both have one set of reef points. The main has two reef points and will not use battens. I will not use the club for either head sail.
By eye it looks to me that the staysail reef will be about three feet, the genoa reef about four feet and the mainsail will reef in increments of about three feet. This combination of three sails should cover about 90% of the sailing conditions I expect to encounter. This means for most conditions I will not have to change sails. I will not use roller furling for the headsails. The main will employ standard slab reefing.
A spinnaker pole rigged to a standard track on the front of the mast will be used for poling out the headsail when necessary. It will be mounted vertically on the forward face of the mast when not in use. Eliminating the club and stowing the spinnaker pole up the mast will do much to clear the fore and side decks from obstructions. For light winds the addition of an asymetrical spinnaker will help kept the boat moving. For winds above 35 knots a storm jib will round out the sail inventory.
In reality I was able to purchase numerous used sails on e-Bay. I had a new mainsail made. My sail inventory includes the following:
Mainsail, with two reef points
Trysail
Genoa, I had one reef point added
Yankee
Working Jib (Only original sail from boat)
Staysail, I had one reef point added
Storm Jib
Spitfire jib (very small storm jib)
Hank-on Drifter
Assymetric Spinakker
The working jib, trysail, storm jib, spitfire jib, spinakker and drifter require only a small amount of storage space. The Yankee and genoa are not too large when stored. A mainsail cover and two deck bags for the headsails will provide UV protection.
